Door and lock repair in Singapore
A door that drags on the floor, won't latch or needs a shoulder to close usually has a small cause: a hinge screw that has pulled loose, a strike plate that has shifted, or wood that has swollen in the humidity. Left alone, the hinge tears the frame and the small job becomes a bigger one.
Tell us which door and what it's doing, and we'll pass it to a partner handyman, who quotes, finds the cause and fixes it.
What door and lock repair covers
The usual jobs under this heading. Tick it in the enquiry and describe yours; if it isn’t here, describe it anyway.
Sagging and sticking doors
Doors that rub the frame or scrape the floor, re-hung on tightened or replaced hinges, or planed where swelling is the cause.
Hinges
Loose, squeaky or broken hinges replaced, with stripped screw holes filled so the new screws bite.
Handles and latches
Stiff, loose or broken lever handles and latches replaced, and strike plates moved so the door catches.
Lock changes
Cylinders and mortice locks replaced after you lose a key or move into a home that someone else had keys to.
Digital locks
Digital locks you've bought fitted to the main door or a bedroom door, which usually means cutting the door to the lock's template.
Closers, stoppers and sliding doors
Door closers adjusted so they don't slam, stoppers fitted, and sliding doors and wardrobe doors put back on their tracks.
Locked out right now? Say so in the enquiry, but know that this is a quote-and-book service, not an emergency call-out, so it suits jobs that can wait a day or two.
Door and lock repair: a small fix or a bigger job?
What this site arranges
A handyman job
- Re-hanging a sagging door
- Replacing handles, hinges and locks
- Fitting a digital lock
- Fixing a sliding door that jumps its track
A bigger job
A renovation
- Replacing a whole door and frame
- Changing a main door or gate
- Widening a doorway
Replacing a door frame or a main gate is closer to renovation than repair. Junk to Clear, a renovation and disposal company we refer jobs to, takes renovation enquiries.
What affects the price
We don’t publish prices. The partner handyman quotes once it knows the job. These are the things it will ask about.
- What's wrong, and how many doors. Several doors in one visit usually works out better than one at a time.
- Whether parts need replacing, and whether you supply them or the handyman does.
- For digital locks, the lock's model and the door: a solid timber door, a hollow-core door and a metal gate are all fitted differently.
- Whether the frame is damaged and needs repair before the door will hang straight.
- How soon you need it.
Photos that help the quote
- The whole door, closed, showing where it rubs or the gap it leaves.
- The hinges and the lock or handle, close up.
- For a digital lock, the box with the model name, and the edge of the door.
Keep them on your phone: the handyman may ask for them when it contacts you.
How to prepare, and what happens on the day
Before the visit
- Clear the space either side of the door so it can be swung fully open and lifted off its hinges if needed.
- Have every key for the lock to hand, and the new lock or handle if you bought one.
- For a digital lock, read the lock's door-thickness range and check your door against it.
- Tell anyone at home that the door may be off its hinges for a while.
On the day
- 1 The handyman opens and closes the door a few times, looks at the hinges, latch and frame, and finds where it binds.
- 2 Loose screws are tightened or the holes filled; worn parts are swapped for new ones.
- 3 The door is re-hung if needed and adjusted until it closes easily and latches.
- 4 New locks are tested with every key, and digital locks are set up with you there to register your codes and fingerprints.
Afterwards
Oil hinges once or twice a year, and keep sliding door tracks free of grit. If a timber door starts sticking again in the wet months, it may be swelling; it usually eases when the weather dries.
Door and lock repair in homes and offices
The same job differs between a flat, a landed house and an office. Here’s what changes.
HDB flats
Main doors and gates in HDB flats face the common corridor. Changing the look of the main door may be subject to rules, so check before swapping a whole door; a lock or handle on it is a smaller matter.
Condos
Main doors often open onto a lift lobby. Check with the management office before changing anything visible from it, and book the visit within its working hours.
Landed homes
More doors, and more kinds: timber, glass sliding doors to the garden, and gates. Exposed doors swell more in rain and may need planing rather than new hinges.
Offices
Door closers, push bars, office locks and meeting-room doors that won't stay shut. Fire doors must close by themselves, so their closers shouldn't be removed.
Questions about door and lock repair
Can you install a digital lock I bought online?
Usually, yes. Send the model in the enquiry. The handyman will check it fits your door's thickness and type before the visit.
My door sticks only in the rainy season. Does it need planing?
Possibly not. Timber swells with humidity and shrinks back. Tightening the hinges often cures it; planing is for doors that stick all year.
Do you do emergency lockouts?
No. Enquiries are read during working hours and quoted by the partner, so this suits repairs that can wait a day or two.
Can the handyman fix a sliding wardrobe door?
Yes, in most cases: the rollers are adjusted or replaced and the door is set back on its track.

Thank you. Your enquiry is on its way.
